The Department of Traffic Planning and Traffic Systems examines current trends, analyzes the cause-effect relationships between space, traffic and the environment and leverages this information to develop concepts in order to achieve the goal of sustainable traffic. In addition to a broad range of methodological knowledge, the department is able to rely on years of experience and expertise in the fields of integrated traffic planning and local public transport. Research and core competencies focus on the following fields:
- Public passenger transport, incl. sharing systems
- Traffic surveys
- Analysis and model-supported forecasting of traffic demand
- Traffic and the environment

- Conceptualization, implementation and evaluation of traffic surveys (e.g. counts, speed and distance measurements, behavioral observations, polls)
